Q: How does Dinner for Eight (D-4-8) work? A: Complete and submit the sign up card (on welcome table in church's foyer) or here on the website. Check the box if you would be willing or not to host a group at your home. The leader of the group will contact group members to organize who will bring what dish to share. During dinner, the group will agree on a schedule of when and where to meet the next month. The D-4-8 kick-of began in October and new groups will begin again in January with different people. (We will likely take the summer off or have a different arrangement.) These are SHARED-DISH dinners (a.k.a. pot luck). The group can be as creative or simple as they choose in the meals they enjoy, however we encourage all D-4-8 groups to be alcohol-free to enable as many people as possible to participate. Q: How are Leaders selected & what do they do? A: You can sign up to be a Host on the sign-up form. If we have enough people desiring to form another group we select a Leader from those willing to host then publicize the new launch date of the new group. The Leader hosts the first meeting, contacts people who sign-up for their date, and organizes who brings what for the shared-dish dinner. At dinner the leader also facilitates discussion of where and when the group will meet next. The leader will remain the point person for that group until the end of that cycle when groups are reorganized. Q: Launch weekend? What’s that? A: That is the weekend Dinners for 8 officially starts. Most dinners happen Friday, Saturday, or Sunday night. However the dinner dates for the following dinners will be determined by the group at the first meeting (…so bring your calendar!). Q: All that sounds pretty good, so far, but who cooks the meals? A: These are shared-dish dinners. The Leader will contact group members to determine who will bring what dish or item. Q: I don’t have room to host a dinner or I really can’t cook! A: No problem! Our desire is for you to spend time eating together, getting to know each other and to include everyone. You are not required to host a dinner at your home to participate. Some groups may be hosted at the Leader’s home every month while others groups may rotate to a few willing hosts. If you can’t or don’t like to cook you may bring drinks, buy a rotisserie chicken, or some other store bought option (approved by the host), or you may all agree to meet a time or to at a restaurant (going Dutch obviously!). Q: Will there be separate Dinner for Eight groups for singles & couples? A: NO!! Our intention is to mix EVERYONE together. That way, it’ll be more fun. Q: How will that be done? A: D-4-8 groups are decided based on meeting date and time. Groups are first come, first eat! If 8 singles sign up first it will be 8 singles. If two couples and 4 singles sign up that will be the group. If any management is required priority will be to diversify the group. Q: This is sounding better & better, but I have children. What happens to them? A: Child care will be decided by the host and parents. Ideas: Perhaps children can play or watch TV quietly in another room, possibly teen children of other group members would be willing to baby sit young children at the parent’s home, or parents of young children may need to find their own baby sitter. Q: What happens when the four months are over? A: In the next to last month new leaders and new dates will be chosen for a new Launch Weekend. Host families can volunteer and member sign-ups will happen again. Q: This sounds like fun! Can I sign up anytime? A: YES, sign up anytime! Complete and return the sign-up form on this page. Dinner for 8 groups are an ongoing process. Once 8 people have signed up a Leader will be selected and a new group will form. |
